BULLETS RACE REPORTS CX EVENTS IN KNUTSFORD AND MACCLESFIELD BY JOE CADWALLADER

The event near Knutsford was on 4th January 2020. It was great to see some support from club members too, not the best place to spectate as most of the race was the other side of the hedge. The kids love any support they get and it really does help them.

We had 3 in the under 8 yo out of 31 starters. The course I can confirm was a very hard one, it was 90% the same course as I raced later that day, normally it would be around 10%. This proved a bit of a shock for Jacob at 5yo but luckily dad was at hand to support him, Harry and Dylan had quite brilliant rides and I would say their strongest of the season, they crossed the line 1st time around in 13th and 16th, the hard course seemed to suit them and both moved into the top 10 (Harry 7th and Dylan 10th). The support must have helped as this is the first time we have had 2 riders in the top ten in the same race.

Under 10yo next, fair to say Benjamin looked a bit rusty in his first race for a while, he did however keep pushing on with a smile and produced the most exciting finish of the day to win a sprint by a tyre. Toby was again consistent in a good 12th place, he was not at his best and he is better on more technical courses, however another strong finish with a big smile.

The ride of the day goes to Dan, he got a solid start and went over the line in 21st, Dan’s problem has been maintaining a high position and it was great to see him embrace the very hard course. Over the next two laps he moved up to finish in his best placing to date of 18th!! Moving up when you are one of the youngest in the race is very hard to do. He really gained from the experience of last week’s race and took a big step forward.

Super pleased with the last 8 days for all the team and really looking forward to the next round in 2 weeks’ time Rossendale.

Can we get 3 riders in the top 10 and 5 in the top 20…… I may do a forfeit if they do ?

Macclesfield was on 29th December 2019. Really pleased to see 4 boys turn up last weekend. Harry again made the top 10 (9th) in the under 8yo, super consistent stuff that has him holding 8th place in the league standings in his first year of racing. Dan produced one of his best rides of the year to just miss out on the top 20 (21st) he should take great encouragement from this as he remains in this category next year!

In the same race Toby again showed some really good consistency placing 8th, Toby is really showing some very good consistency against some very good riders, he is currently 3rd in the league standings in his debut season, I expect he will go much better in crits this summer and remain competitive at under 12yo next season. I was really pleased to see Fraser once again complete the course, for sure this year will really bring him on give him confidence for what’s to come.

The next race is this coming Saturday in Knutsford “could be a nice club run” to come and support? This 4 should be joined by Dylan, Benjamin and Jacob. Races start at 11:20 for the under 8yo followed straight after by the under 10yo, all done by 12:20 ready for a nice ride back if any can make it ?.
