Racing Members: Rules

GENERAL

10.1 (i)

All Club trophies that are awarded annually to members remain Club property. It is the holder’s responsibility to return to racing secretary in time for engraving current year’s champions. Anyone holding a trophy and not renewing his or her membership shall return the trophy within one month of being requested to do so.

10.1 (ii)

All Open Club championships are competed for by all classes of our racing members: male and female, juveniles, juniors veterans and the 19 to 40 year old group of racing members.

10.1. (iii)

Juveniles and juniors compete within the age limits imposed by the regulations of British Cycling (BC) and Cycling Time Trials (CTT).

10.1.(iv)

If circumstances mean that any of the following rules are impracticable to apply or disputed, the racing committee are at liberty to decide the best way of deciding any particular championship.

10.2. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS RULES

10.2 (i)

At least 2 riders must compete and post a time or placing in each championship event for the award to be made.

10.2 (ii)

From January 2019 the championships are: Tens (10.3), Hill Climb, Best All Rounder (10.4), Time Trial (10.5) Handicap (10.6) and 25, 50 and 100 miles time trials. The 25 will be with the NLTTA combined clubs event at the end of the season and the 50 and 100 miles will be with the NLTTA 50 and 100 miles championships.

10.2 (iii)

The qualifying Time Trial events for the Best All Rounder Championship, Tens, Time Trial Championship and 25, 50 and 100 Mile Time Trial Championships are open, association and club time trials held under the auspices of CTT Districts North (L courses excluding 1015) Manchester (M courses) Liverpool (D courses) and Yorkshire (V courses excluding 733). The committee reserves the right not to accept a claim that is not substantiated by a finish sheet.

10.2 (iv)

If two members (in any category) do not post times in any of the time trial championships but two members post times in separate events at the championship in question then the member who posts the fastest time in the year is deemed champion. There is a second fall back provision for males, If one male enters the 100 championship he will only be awarded the championship if his time is equal to or faster than the winning males time plus 6%.

10.2 (v)

Apart from club championships racing members should submit their best performances during the year via the facility on our website and certainly no later than the 31st December. Submissions after this date will not be accepted.

10.3 THE OPEN TENS CHAMPIONSHIP

10.3. (i)

The 10’s championship is based on a racing member’s three fastest ten mile time trials during the year. Calculations left to the discretion of racing secretary or appointed administrator: aggregate, average time or average speed all give the same answer.

10.3. (ii)

At least 2 competitors need to compete and the champion is the one with the fastest average speed. If only one competitor competes in their category (Male or Female) then the championship is not awarded.

10.4 THE OPEN BEST ALL ROUNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

10.4 (i)

The Bar Championship is decided by the following points scoring system over 10, 25, 50 & 100 miles time trials and ‘other’ events such as National Clarion Championships (track, criterium and cyclo cross). Also any other event that may be decided by the racing committee. The Bury Clarion Hill Climb championship is designated as an ‘other’ event as are any nominated SPOCO events.

10.4 (ii).

Points awarded in each qualifying event list are: 1st – 20 points, 2nd – 15 points 3rd -12 points 4th – 10 points 5th – 8 points. If there are more than 5 riders in any one competition then one less point is recorded for each position.

10.4. (iii)

Females score according to their placing in ‘Open Championship’ table. The female champion is the one with the greatest score at the end of the season. If only one female competes then a female championship is not awarded. Two members in each category (Male and Female) need to compete in at least 4 separate B.A.R nominated events for the championships to be awarded.

10.4. (iv).

The best four scores determine which member is champion. At least one but no more than 2 of these to be time trials. In case of a tie break the best five highest number of points. Club time trial championships are included and start with a score 20 points (10.4.ii) regardless of not being the fastest time.

10.4 (v).

Each member’s fastest time trials during the season at 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles are listed fastest to slowest in a table to ascertain positions.

10.4 (iv).

The positions for those of ‘other’ events are ascertained by abstracting from the finish sheets of these events a list of Bury Clarion Cycling Club riders (all classes 10.1 (ii)) in the finishing order of highest to lowest.

10.5. THE OPEN TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

10.5. (i)

Racing Members who have ridden qualifying (10.2.iii) 25, 50 and 100 miles events are in competition for this championship in the first place. The average speed at each fastest qualifying event during the season of a member is ascertained. The average (arithmetic mean) of the three determines the champion. If two members do not post qualifying times then the champion is the member who qualifies likewise over 10, 25 and 50 miles.

10.6 THE OPEN HANDICAP CHAMPION

10.6 (i)

The handicap championship shall be run in conjunction with one of the evening 10-mile time trials used for the ‘Tens Championship’. If the winner of the Tens championship is fastest on handicap then the award goes to the 2nd placed rider.

10.6 (ii)

All Categories will compete together and handicap times will be given dependent on gender, fastest time at given distance, type of bike to be used and will be up to the decision of the handicapper.

10.7. THE OPEN TRACK MEMBER OF YEAR

(i)

The Track member (male or female) of the Year will be decided by racing committee excluding any nominated track-riding member.

(ii)

The winner of this championship is not necessarily the one with the obviously greater athletic prowess but the one who has made the greatest impression on the committee.

THE FEMALE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

10.8 (i)

At least 2 riders must compete and post a time or placing in each championship event for the award to be made.

10.8 (ii)

From January 2020 they are: Tens (10.3), Hill Climb, Best All Rounder (10.4), Time Trial (10.5) and 25, 50 and 100 miles. The 25 will be with the NLTTA combined clubs event at the end of the season and the 50 and 100 miles will be with the NLTTA 50 and 100 miles championships.

10.8 (iii)

The qualifying TT events are open, association and club time trials held under the auspices of CTT Districts North (L courses excluding 1015) Manchester (M courses) Liverpool (D courses) and Yorkshire (V courses excluding 733). 10.8 (iv)

If two members do not post times in each category of time trial championships but two members post times in separate events for the championship in question then the member who posts the fastest time in the year is deemed champion. If only one female competes at a given distance throughout the season then the championship will only be awarded if her time is equal to or faster than the winning females time plus 12% at the nominated Nltta championship events.

10.8a

If a member should enter a championship and both of the above rules are not met and that member goes on to set a new club record for their catagory then the championship will be awarded.

10.9 THE FEMALE TENS CHAMPIONSHIP

10.9. (i)

10.9 THE FEMALE BEST ALL ROUNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

10.9 (i)

The Female Best All Rounder Championship is the highest placed female at the end of the season on the combined Bar table. At least 2 females must compete in 4 events.

10.9. (iv)

The best four scores determine which member is champion. At least one but no more than 2 of these to be time trials. In case of a tie break the best five highest number of points.

10.9 (v)

The positions for those of ‘other’ events are ascertained by abstracting from the finish sheets of these events a list of Bury Clarion Cycling Club riders (all classes 10.1(i)) in the finishing order of highest to lowest.

10.10. THE FEMALE TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

10.10. (i)

The female champion is the one with the fastest average speed. Note 10.1 (v). If only one female competes then the championship is not awarded.

10.10 (i)

If a female wins an ‘Open Championship’ (10.2) then she is awarded the ‘Open Championship’ medal but not the female medal and her name will be engraved on the Open and Female perpetual trophies. i.e. the second placed female is not nominated club female champion.

JUVENILE AND JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

10.12 (i)

These are Hill Climb and 10 Miles Time Trial Championships. The hill climb is with the annual senior Bury Clarion Hill Climb championship and the 10 miles time trial is with the annual handicap championship.

10.12 (ii)

For these championships a Juvenile is a member who is 12 years old and is no more than 13 year old on the day of the event. A junior rider is one who is 14 years old and is no more than 17 years old on the day of the event.

10.12. (iii)

Two competitors must post a time for each championship for it to be awarded. If the two are one male and one female (or more) the award is only made if the female beats the male.
10.12. (iv)

If a juvenile beats a Junior then the Juvenile become the Junior Champion.
